Why Do I Have to Attend Survival Traffic School?

Survival Traffic School, or Traffic Survival School (TSS), is a class ordered by the Motor Vehicle Department or by the Court for driver improvement. There are several circumstances that will cause an MVD order:

  • DUI - Extreme DUI
  • Red light conviction
  • 8-12 points on license within 1 year of first offense
  • An accident that involves a death or serious injury
  • First conviction for a driver who has a Graduated Driver's (Class G) License

What is Survival Traffic School?

Survival Traffic School, or Traffic Survival School, is a program consisting of a single, eight-hour long class. Its purpose is to:

  • Educate drivers about Arizona traffic laws
  • Reinforce driver responsibilities
  • Emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices.
  • You don't have the choice as to whether to take this class, and completing it will not remove points off your driving record.

Unlike the defensive driving program, which is under the governance of the Arizona Supreme Court, the TSS falls under the authority of the MVD. Failing to take the class within 60 days from the notice date on your corrective action letter means your license will be suspended until you do complete the class and pay your fines.

What do I need to do in order to enroll in the course?

Students must have a corrective action letter/Proof of Assignment or Court Order in order to attend class. If you no longer have the letter or the Proof of Assignment you MUST obtain a copy from any MVD office. 602-255-0072 A Motor Vehicle Record Request Form will need to be filled out to obtain a Proof of Assignment and a $3.00 fee is charge. A MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is not accepted in place of Proof of Assignment. If you don't have Proof of Assignment letter or A Court Order showing TSS assignment at class check in, you will not be allowed into class. Please contact a member of our staff with any questions.

*All of our Survival Traffic School (or traffic survival school) courses are MVD approved.
